> ps2 help wanted!

ok im having problems with my new ps2 (its not really new i bought it second hand) and the problem is it won't read any DVD disks (ps2 games and DVD's) but WILL read CD disks (ps1 games and audio disks).
I first didn't think much of it. I tried resetting it a few times still no luck.
I then vacummed the inside of the disk tray and behind the fans. Still no luck. I
then used a special disk with brushes on the back to clean the lens and it still didn't work. I then even took open the ps2 and manually cleaned the lens myself using a piece of cotton wool with methylated spirit on and still nothing.
What happends is i put in a ps2 game and reset it. The sony thing comes up as usual. Then instead of the game loading and going on to the "play station 2" sign, it goes to the main menu which says "browser" and system configuration".
Please i am deperate, can anyone help? Thanks

This ps2 is chipped does that make a difference? i have a working ps2..would i be able to take the chip out of the broken one and put it into the working one? thanks

i think the chupping is something added on to the motherboard but not sure, did you buy it recently cos if so i reckon you bin ripped off, id take it back

@ palex.. na i bought it chipped from a trusted member here and it worked fine with no problems for like the first 3 weeks i had it then suddenly it stopped working.
@burgaz..so does that mean it is unfixable? dam im gutted.

you can get new lasers... Probably from ebay? I've never fitted one myself nor would i know where to start. I know some places fit them for you but charge about £40-50.

turn everything off. then turn playstation on so the red light shows. now hold it in until the main screen appears. this disables the chip and lets it function like an unchipped ps2. if that doesn't fix anything then you know its not the chip causing the problem

thanks hutchygears i tried that and still no look. I dont know what the problem is. Eveything seems to be working apart from the fact it doesnt load the dvd. It spins the disk and switched on normaly. I dont get a disk read error either.
