> K800i earphone volume low
Bookmark topic
Hey today I got a new K800i but its earphone volume is too low. I checked the volume; its setting is high but I can't hear normally. But when I used headset sounds ok. Anybody got the same problem? Some people said that, it is traditional problem on K800i; but I had one before but that one hadn’t this problem.
Can anyone give me some advice?
If I update the firmware then will this problem solve?
My present firmware is: R1CB001

I doubt that the firmware may change the maximum output volume very much, since it mostly depends of what the amplifier is capable of, the voltage over the output transistors in the amp, the maximum current that the battery can provide and and the sensitivity and impedance of your ear phones, i.e. all hardware stuff. Of course, since the amplifier is software controlled, the amplification rate might have been changed in a newer fw version, but it cannot change too much, since if the amplification rate is too high, the amplifier would become over-driven and thus, the maximum volume would be the same, but with distorsion.
The original earphones that came with the K800i does let ambient sounds pass through, so that may cause the sound seem low. I bought a pair of HPM-70, in-ear style ear phones, and I don't have any problems with too low volume levels with those.

Thanks. that's really good information. i didn't know that. I'm going to observe my phone next two days, if it won't bother me very much then I'll keep it. if it does then i'll return it.

Read in a number of other places that new-er firmwares will decrease max volume to comply with safety-legislation here there and everywhere,,, that is, manufacturers are covering their as*ses against lawsuits re. deafness... From what I read, e.g., a lot of symbian 3rd ed.-owners regret the latest update as it's lowered their phone's volume... now SE? Early eighties all over again... When the walkman ruined lives everywhere, brought about social unrest, and deafness... Hell, might just be a symbian/nokia rumour - though a co-worker got a spanking new e61 that is nowhere near as loud as mine (that has an older firmware)... My old k750 IS definitely not as loud anymore as before flashing/update 5 wks ago...

That’s really bat news. Cause I’m ride maximum time on motorbike. So I have to receive call on a heavy sounded place. So that’s really hard to hear. With my K800i some time I’m hear normal and sometime I hear little bit lower. I can’t decide what I should do. I did update this phone. After update sound quality remaining some. Tonight I’m going to compare it with my others phones, P990i, V3i and nokia6630 with same operator sim. One of my friends said. Sony Ericsson phone have always little bit lower sound then other branded phones.
