Ok...here is the question....i know usb is faster but so many ppl are using a serial one....is there a reason for this?

no, the phone is limited to 115K transfer rate regardless of the method, i.e., bluetooth, serial, infrared, usb (which is basically serial)

some people use usb because there's no device connected to their usb port or their serial port is already taken. but speed is the same like master arnold says

Under control panel there is a new module "Phone Monitor Options"
Make sure you enable the com port that your phone is connected to!

As for why USB vs. serial, there are a couple of reasons. (Current software issues aside), USB is generally easier to configure that serial. Also, many modern computers don't have (old-style) serial ports.

It is more widely available. Here in the US, AT&T Wireless carries the serial cable in their stores, for example. So does Best Buy. But to get the USB cable (DCU-10), you have to
order it directly from SonyEricsson (this link is the US accessories page for the T68i... lots of good stuff you can't find in stores).
