Hello everyone, I am having a problem with my W900i and am seeking some assistace. All the numbers in my phonebook are stored without an area code and now the phone does not recognize callers by the names assigned to them in the phonebook; without them being stored in the phonebook with the area code.

Now for example let's say you are Jake and your phone number is 532-2009 and I save your name and number as such. When you call it doesnt say Jake calling instead it says 212-532-2009 calling.

Why is this happening?
Is there any solution?
Its pretty annoying, I got a call this morning and had to search my whole phonebook, the person's name begins with a P so that was alot of scrolling.

I have NEVER had this problem, but have heard some phones also operate like this.

For example on my last phone the W800i it would say
"Jake calling +212-532-2009"
The W800i would acknowledge the area code even though Jake's number was not stored with an area code in the phonebook and also acknowledge that it was Jake that was calling.

Any ideas as to why this is happening?

I would be most grateful for all your replies.

Hi.

If your numbers are stored in your phonebook without an area-code then how do you dial out from your phone book?

I thought the area-code was a requirement?

The phone matches the number of the incoming call to the matching one in your phonebook and displays the corresponding name.

Hi goldenface, not so with me and the majority of people I know I have never stored numbers with an area code as the country I am in is governed by one area code. The only numbers stored with area codes in my phone book are foreign ones.

I have never had this problem, on the W800i no numbers were stored with an area code. However when calls come in the number is displayed with an area code and the phone still brings up the name of the person even though that person's number wasnt stored with an area code.

I have no idea why the W900i isnt doing the math like all my other phones have.

Ah.

I thought the area code was the '212' - NYC , if I'm not mistaken.

Are you saying that you store numbers in your phonebook without the 212 area code? The area code refers to the nearest big town/city, does it not?

212-532-2009

The country code is 01 - for USA, after which is the
Area code - 212,
then the rest which is the local number.

You might have to change all the numbers to the ten-figure format to save confusion.

I am not in NYC at the moment, I used the 212 as an example to better deliver my point.
I guess if I had known it would have created confusion I would have said I am in a country governed by one area code/country code.
I guess not many people are in countries governed with one area/country code and as such are accustomed to storing all numbers with an area code so my issue sounds very stange to them.

Very true, I need to store them all now with the area code. However, I have over 350 numbers in my phone and I really cannot be bothered to edit all those contacts and put in the code.

*screams* lol
