When it comes to browsing internet (including visiting this forum) I almost don't use my PC since I bougt the P990. Wifi+full html (with downloading)+ brilliant touch screen+qwerty is an ideal combination for me.
The first step is to update the phone with the latest fw and if possible to instal swiss manager (I prefer sm pro-software for better memory management) and tweak peak (software that will make your phone very fast). Also after updating with the new fm immediately do master reset of the phone. All this should make you a proud owner of your P990.

1) what is (in pixels) the weidth and height of the background? So I can apply a background with a nice aspect ratio
2) because of the synchronisation the p990i matches his clock with my computer clock, but the clock of my p990i is always up-to-date (auto-time-zone) and thus correcter than the clock of my pc? can I switch the method so my p990i synchronizes the clock of my pc?

as a first step, I would also recommend u read the documentation. it will answer a LOT of one's questions. U can either download the User Guide from SE's web site. use the internet version:

Don't worry too much about the battery. It lasts quite a long time. Even if you mess it up, you can buy cheap replacements on eBay.
Update firmware to latest,
Install TweakPeaks, Swiss Manager 1.40 and setup your browser/rss etc..
There aren't many interesting software out so far but it's just a matter of time before we see apps like coreplayer on it.
