I might be able to help with questions 3 and for a bit:

3. - The flash has a limited range, it's probably just that the flash can't illuminate the background, and it's exposure settings are set automatically so that the main subject is lit properly. Try in night mode, that might get the background slightly better lit.

4. - You should be able to get your NTL email settings sent to you from the main Sony Ericcson UK site, just go to I think it's the 'support' page for the K800i and there should be an option to get email settings sent to your phone. Follow the prompts and enter your settings like your email address and password and the site will get them sent to you phone as a settings text.

To answer (1):

1) does it have a T-Mobile "logo" on the bottom of the keypad?
2) does it have the "wen n walk" or "tzones" icon in the menu
desktop, and does it play the T-Mobile Jingle when you switch
it on?

- If you answered yes to (1) and (2), you have a T-Mobile branded, and locked phone. You need to get a special T-Mobile branded firmware. This can be done via Carphone Wharehouse, or a Sony Ericsson service center. I am not aware if you can remotely update a T-Mobile branded phone. Or you can at your own risk, use Wotan server to debrand and update yoru phone.

- If the answer is yes to the first, and no to the second, your phone is unlocked, and debranded, and should work with the update service. However, it may be failing due to the languages on your phone.

- If the answer is no to the first, and yes to the second, you have an oddball Carphone warehouse Phone. It is technically an "unbranded" phone, and is not locked to T-Mobile. However, T-Mobile have forced Carphone warehouse to put a subset of T-Mobile's software. For some reason Sony Ericsson does not recognise this firmware, and therefore cannot find an update. You would need to take it to Carphone warehouse, and update it to the latest version or their oddball software (Which may still not be as recent as the generic version). You may be better off paying Wotan Server and reflashing it with generic firware to undo the crap. This will return your phone to its original unbranded state, and allow you to update via SEUS.

In answer to 2), i have no idea

In answer to 3) Use twilight portrait mode. This mode keeps the shutter open for a bit longer, after firing the flash, lightening up the background a bit. However, ensure you keep your camera really still,a nd tell your subject to keep still until u say so. Pease note, the flash is not very powerfull, and has a maximum range of 1.5m i think. Also because the white balence will be set to "Flash", you may notice the background take on a more yellow/orange tint if the room is lit with incandesant lighting. This is actually quite pleasing, but may not suit your needs. ITs nto perfect, but give it a go.

In answer to 4) i have no idea

answer to # 3.

janahan is right. you can use the twilight portrait if you want to have a

clear view of the background.
