I have just installed mp3gain onto my computer. I set the db up to 105.9, the maximum. Now all of my files sound rubbish. I cant undo the changes becuz the applet froze and i had to restart my computer and the log failed. All of my music now sounds rubbish. Does anyone know a good setting or how to recover the files. Can anyone succest the best db rating for my files.

In MP3gain, select "Modify Gain" > "Undo Gain Changes".
Then set "Normal" volume lower and try again. I use 89dB because that NEVER gives distortion, but most people find that too low.
If this has wrecked your entire life, you really need to get out more...

okay basically i think your music is stuffed if the actual mp3 files have been modified....
if i understand right your increasing the volume/amplifying the sound on the files...
+98db is way too high....i personally use audacity when i want to do this and i only go up by a max of 5db usually 3db. i dont kno how to explain it....kinda like the volume of the file hits the maximum at every point in the song so it cuts bits off and sounds like shit. a way around this is to use audacity and tick disable clipping which wont allow the volume to go high enough to cause any distortion at all.
although with my old phones i tended to amp the volume of my ringtone higher and allow clipping coz i needed 2 b able 2 hear it. just test and c for yourself

105 is really high for the setting. i normally use 95-98.
decreasing the volume of a distorted music file to begin with will still give a distorted file with a lower volume. Since the log file for the original volume is gone,i'm afraid there's no way you can fix your mp3's. i doubt re-encoding will work since as I've said, it's already a distorted file to begin with.
