I've heard there are fake hpm-70's about on ebay, I was looking to buy another set for my dad but how would i tell if there fake if there is a such thing?

Those definitely exist. I have one. I actually got it at a bakery! Of course it's easy to tell apart as you will see in these pictures.

Its the top one in the 2nd pic, if you look closely that one hasnt got the goldplated phono end.

indeed, i bought one pair and the package was orange/white. the green/white packages are for the K serie.
