SE response to Nokia's S60 3rd edition feature pack 2, the incremental upgrade to UIQ 3.1

The new version adds supports for scalable vector graphics (SVG), improves the softkey configuration options and provides functions that facilitate multi-tasking thereby improving the ability to switch between applications.

New devices expected to be announced !!!

Any chance to upgrade my P990i to UIQ3.1 ??? (

Check it out at the next jump

I'm not sure what "improves the softkey configuration options" means exactly but I hope it is like WM5 where they introduced physical buttons for the softkeys as that was something I really liked on my TyTN

I would also like to see more pop up menus when you press and hold the stylus on screen as that is much more intuitive than reaching for the more menu all the time, but I guess thats too much of a change for a .1 release

Hi all,
I'm afraid from my perspective this is too little too late and will find it very hard to ever trust or buy another SE smart phone again. Although i do admit that SE have now got their UIQ3 devices to a state of how they should originally of been launched IMO. Maybe they will have learnt there lesson and return to delivering devices people deserve on launch at least i hope so. You never know they may come out with a device i find irresistible and will one day return but for now i some how doubt it.

I totally agree, we’ve been there guinea pigs for far to long now, I think EVERYONE should boycott them until the greedy barstrds get there act together and start producing quality like they used to and not the sh*t we’ve got now

i can´t understand intirely that point of view...s60 v3 already had 2 major updates, SP1, and SP2, this is the first for UIQ3

on other hand, after UIQ 2 was launched, then came UIQ 2.1...this is just the same

yes i would love to be able to upgrade, but has long has they keep updating the existing devices firmware and apps are compatible (they are), i´m ok

Lame as it might be,..but is this new feature pack having anything to do with current UIQ 3.0 phones? By that i mean will we be able to update them or is that just meant for upcomming models?

And also if e.g. P990 can be upgraded to UIQ 3.1 is thare any change that could make it faster?

The idea is as following:
UIQ is the User Interface software bundle.
Symbian is the Operating System bundle.

So, Symbian has reached version 9.3 I suppose, so in order for the UI to keep up to date with the OS new functionalities, the companies iterated their own UIs. Nokia made it for S60 SP2, UIQ bring UIQ 3.1

So, if this is going to be available for P990? Depends on the SE plans to deliver the next P model. If this will not happen in 6 months time, logically they should deliver both new Symbian and UIQ to P990, M600 and W950, to fix a bit of the damaged image of these devices have now.If no (so they plan to release next P,M, W sooner) they will not give it to us, actual UIQ 3.0 users.

3.1 means that 3.0 apps should work on it without any trouble.

Apart from the smartphones, other high end SE phones do have extra hardware keys already implemented. I dont suppose SE would take very long before the same being implemented for its P series.

@Dogmann; The 990i with its latest firmware is already quite stable although not as good as its predecessor P910i. Whats the big SE let down for you? No phone or software is perfect and as sure as the sun will rise tom, newer and newer updates will come, be it Nokia, SE and WM
