With Vista just out the door,Microsoft is now drawing up plans to deliver its follow-up operating system by the end of 2009, according to the executive in charge of building the product's core components.

That would be a much faster turn-around than Vista, which shipped more than five years after Windows XP, but Vista was exceptional, said Ben Fathi, corporate vice president of development with Microsoft's Windows Core Operating System Division this week at the RSA Conference in San Francisco.

Who knows how long, that's a bit of a bold statement (2 years).

The next Microsoft OS will be 64bit only I hear.

64bit existed since xp,but its much more mainstream with vista..
They tried too hard to include a lot of new features in originally planned vista (longhorn earlier),they started with a huge list,got through halfway,then they realized its not viable for all the things to be on vista,they restarted it again and thats the vista that we see now..

it is a copy of osx but as they say:

:if you cant beat em, join em"

so i can only assume that billy couldn't beat mac osx so had to copy it....

i love my mac.. would never ever go back to windoze..

and yes ive used vista.

but yeah i think MS need to stand up and create something new.

I was watchin something on TV last week where they were saying Vista could be last OS Microsoft are going to have a launch event for. They were saying future versions of Windows could just be received over the internet without buying an actual disc.

OS's have been copying each other for years, not like thats going to ever stop.
