Yesterday I updated the firmware on my phone, and changed the silver case (as supplied by T-Mobile) to a much nicer black one. Now when I receive calls they are silent! If I switch to speaker it's fine, but if I then switch back to the earpiece it's silent. I've checked the earpiece volume which is on full.

Do you think I broke something when I changed the case, or could it be the firmware? It was a bit fiddly getting the old case off, but I was very careful, and only used a plastic tool for the part where I had to prise it open.

its more likely somcething you have done changing the case. I'd suggest pulling it apart again and looking for something obvious around the top of the phone

Is it a genuine SE case you've changed it to? Are all the screws tightened fully?

If not, it's probably a poorly-fitting case that's to blame. Either that or the ear speaker has become slightly dislodged out of it's usual place during the facia change and just needs resiting or it's connector pins pulling gently back up into position if it has them.

Yes it is a genuine SE case. As you suggest, I must have dislodged the earpiece when I replaced the fascia. I really hope it's not a solder connection I've broken...

By the way, I did struggle a bit getting the back panel off this phone (the panel with the green and silver SE logo on it). On the bottom right corner of this panel there's a tiny lip to keep the panel in place. This was nasty to get off. Any ideas on how to do this more easily?

it likly to be the earpiece contacts not touching the board, u need to take apart you phone again make sure they contact,

Soooo i looked in the old fascia last night, and found the, errr, mini speaker for the earpiece still glued in place... Oops. I removed it and put it in the new case, and i'm hearing calls again!
