Hey Guys,

I bought a phone from an ebay 'powerseller' last November and then sold it to one of the members on here in December as i no longer wanted it.

However, yesterday he pm'd me to say the phone now appears to be blocked as he can't use it no matter what sim card he tries in it

Does this mean it is 100% stolen or can there be any other reasons for it becoming blocked ? Perhaps any of you guys who are in the mobile phone trade could provide an accurate answer as i'm keen to learn if there can be more than one reason for it to become blocked?

Many thanks.

It might have been reported stolen to claim on insurance.

Yep an insurance claim would make the handset useless.

but you should be using the handset shortly being reported (e.g within 24hours) - it might be the networks decided to block it now after months

Hi Topscooby

I would contact the seller and ask what has happened as if this is what has happened and this is the case he is guilty of commiting insurance fraud and both the insurance company and the Police will prosecute him.

You shouldn't really be contacting after a year.. if people come back to me after 4 months and say something's gone wrong with the phone then anything could've happened.
If it was his contract phone from new then it's wise but he could come back and say sorry I don't know what's happened, it's not my problem...

@top - Just want to ask what an Ebay 'POWERSELLER' is If it describes a TRUSTED seller . . . then I guess the problem will NOW be with that other member here . . . (one you SOLD it to . . .).

What Topscooby neglected to mention was that he sold the phone to me and has now basically washed his hands of the whole situation leaving me with a phone to the value of £200+ that is basically useless.

Maybe it is not his fault the phone has been blocked but he was the original buyer and I bought it off him in good faith.

I have had this happen to me a few times when buying phones on Ebay and have always had the good grace to refund the person who bought it off me and then sort the problem myself.

Apparently though, topscooby cannot take the phone back and refund my money as he would then be handling goods involved in an insurance fraud.
