Ad-hoc is most probably not the right thing here... Ad-hoc is connections between phone and phone, computer to phone etc. That is, without an access point/hotspot, and every device in such a net talks directly to all the other ones.
When you connect to hotspots, you shouldn't need to create an account, just scan, select the network and press the two green arrows. If there is a lock in the right side of the screen on the line of the selected network, it needs some kind of crypto-key. That might be the reason why you can't connect through infrastructure.
In any case, connecting with ad-hoc to a hotspot will (in almost ALL cases) NOT work.

Could you send all 4 System Information codes in full? Or a screenshot, if possible.
And is the padlock at the top right open or closed?

Yes, that is the correct information. The latest is Organizer R4B03, so Italy is quite recent. Organizer is the important code.

Please be aware that P990 wi-fi is the slower 11 Mbps 802.11b only. Some access points only work with the faster 54 Mbps 802.11g. The P990 can see those but not connect. Also try moving closer to the access point.

To connect to an open hotspot (no padlock), you don't need to make an account. Just Scan and connect with the arrows. The phone will use a Default account. You should see the message Connected (in English or Italian).

To test the phone, it's best to use a home or office network where you can find out the settings and maybe change them. Use Infrastructure mode and get settings from the person running the network. The phone and the access point must use the same settings.

Make sure the access point is accepting 11 Mbps 802.11b, Good luck.

@mimmog
Well, I don't really see why you can connect with ad-hoc, but that clearly is the reason why you're not getting internet access after connecting...
