someone told me when i bought my sony W810i that there was a way to transfer mp3's from the computer onto the phone and then assign them as a ringtune. i have tried compressing the files and i just dont understand why it won't work. there must be some kind of trick in order to do this.
can anyone help me out with this???

or you're doing wrong while trying to set a Mp3 as ringtone. go to menu, file manager, sounds. then look for the Mp3, press more, use as, and choose ringtone. if it wont work, masseuur was right.

I had the same problem with my K790, all I did was change the format of that song/ringtune from mp3 to WAV.

Yes, Changing the format will help. Although quality may suffer incase bitrate decreases.
