Has anyone every used hypnotherapy or been hypnotised?
I have a friend who suffers from an eating disorder and has been to cancelling but with no joy, so was just wondering if there’s any point in her given it a go?

I used it for smoking and it worked....
But you have to have some sort of belief in it....
Cant comment on the food issue though....partly cos i am sporting a Budha belly.

I would say its worth a shot mate, My girl friend suffers from a very rare eating disorder and we're going to be seeing a hypnotist to hopefully cure her of it.
I would say as the above poster says its really down to the persons will to believe it.
Fingures crossed your friend gets what she wants out of it.

definitly it works!
my username is not just something I made up. I'm a fully qualified masseur, reflexologist, nutritionalist and more but its only a hobby since IT pays much more
but... I have done several work shops on hypnotherapy and plan to specialise in that at some point in the next few years
the mind is powerful and the subconcious especially so and as Paul Mckenna say, its just a matter of reprogramming
you need to be somewhat susceptible though and if you have a strong mind and are a big disbeliever in being able to be hypnotised then it will be difficult to get good results unless the hypnotist is something special
get your friend to go with an open mind and a desire to want to make a change to their life and I'm sure the results will prove worthwhile

Can i also suggest Acupuncture.
It is also used to treat all sorts of "ailments" and whilst i would love to explain in detail why this treatment has also be tested from my side, its quite personal so i wont...however, find a good physician and you could be away...

I'm different, I'm against acupuncture because of its invasiveness.
Acupressure done right achieves the same results without actually invading the body
I mean, sticking needles into the body is not my idea of therapy!
but each to their own of course

I have to say Hypnotherapy did work for me but it didnt last very long, and I did go in with an open mind so Im not sure why.
Likewise the acupuncture, as this was on me as Tmag has mentioned, but other therapies have worked, and helped. I think it depends on what the problem is and how it can be "fixed"
I also think however, that anything natural is worth a go.

Im all for accupuncture!
I popped my shoulder out couple years ago, went for so many physio sessions and nothing helped.
I then went for some laser acupuncture thing , from the first second i could feel it working!
Apart from the pain kill, I had a tendon that was stretched, the tendon hold my arm and connecting it to the shoulder.
The accupuncture stimulated it and it contracted now im fine!!

"... McKenna says... Just a matter of re-programming"... "JUST"??? Masseur, I have zero doubt that hypnotherapy works in many people, really, no sh*t - but so does religion, big brother, canabis, heat magazine, and kellog's special k... People are indeed capable of self-manipulation (un-/guided by other, or not)... And I'd say to the girl, sure, if you're up for it, give it a try... But "just re-programming"... Funny, I always miss the episodes where the McKennas of this world go to, say, prison, "just" for a quick reprogramming of those pesky little rapists' minds (like those psychics who never quite win the jack pot)... masseur, if you believe in what you do (and I have no reason to doubt or question that), McKenna's not your friend... You sound like a wise man... The wisest thing Mckenna's ever done is NOT claiming to be a Dr McKenna (like "Dr" Gillian...)...
anyhow... Let her try hypno-therapy... Beats dodgy drugs, and cannot be worse than what counts as psychology these days!!!
