I personally wouldn't buy unless its from a powerseller (has the logo next to user name!) as there have been loads of cases where phones are barred after 2-3 weeks of the auction ending! Insurance scams

i have bought loads of phones off ebay which have all been brill, bit shappy condition maby, only problem i had was with a seller, soon after auction ended his acc was suspended, i kept in tough with him via MSN and the phone didnt come after like 2 weeks, but my dad sent hm a few emails saying how hed upset a 14 yr old kid and misteriously the phone came 2 days later via special delivery

I've mostly not had a problem, though I tend to be more the cheaper end of the market (£100 max generally). Had one problem with a seller taking my money then not sending the phone, got my money back via a Paypal dispute though, cheeky git left me one of the two negs I've ever had on Ebay!
Just avoid anyone with a low or bad feeback rating, use your judgment

Hi all,
I have bought loads of stuff from E-Bay and some of it of high value, i never buy from people with low feedback unless i can collect and pay cash. I always read all their feedback that still shows what items they have sold and check they are from different buyers also with high feed backs. I also try to stick with sellers that display the £500 Pay Pal protection. I recently bought a brand new unbranded N73 for a friend and my 8800 Special Edition with no problems. Although i collected the the 8800 as he only had 9 feed backs.
Also whilst you can get a good deal if it seems too good to be true it most probably is, also don't but anything where the seller is not sending at the very least recorded delivery IMO if you use common sense and are careful you should be fine but there are no certainties unless you go to a retail shop and then you are going to pay top prices.

Being a powerseller doesnt mean anything. Topscooby bought a Nokia 8800 from a powerseller and it later got blocked.

You got the advantage to live in the UK. I am sure you can find someone who wants to sell his P990 and pick it up right there.

Yea, power sellers with thousands of feedback can (and do) suddenly dissapear from ebay, one tip is to contact people who have bought from the seller & ask them if they got a good deal, but check THERE feedback to determine that they really are independant frome the seller & not a mate who is selling from same town or area, basically after time u learn to "read" ebay & get a feel for it, if your unsure about ebay (like your asking if its ok on this forum) then i think steer clear untill you can read the signs,
asking if u can pay cash & pick up in person (even if u dont intend to) can scare of a fraudster, also genuine sellers will often quite happily give you a landline phone number to contact them on that matches there location, ask for a specific photo to prove they actually have the phone, but end of day, esato is a faar better place to buy a p990 if its from a weell known member, as most are entheusiasts & want to please.
having said all that, i bought my p990 off ebay in October, it was £200, brand new & came next day. but i got several emails from worried buyers who bought from same seller (he sold 10 in one auction), asking if mine was ok, but within a few days they also reported that they had theirs.
Remember even if you buy a phone 200 miles away within th UK, u can often get a national express coach ride there for £20, £10 of which you would probs pay in postage anyway. plus you get a day out.
