In a move widely expected to come today, a local toaster has announced its intent to form a committee to begin its run for the White House. Sources close to the candidate say it has the qualifications needed to be the leader of the free world.

"You know, at first I thought it was a stupid idea," said one Washington insider. "But then when I learned that no so white "Barack Obama" was in the race, I thought - Sheesh! A toaster might work."

Support has already come in from a coffee maker, food processor, and blender, who have worked closely with the candidate in the past.

Already, criticism has come from other household appliances unhappy with the decision. Rumors from the kitchen indicate the toaster may be unbalanced, quickly lapsing into a hot headed rage.

The toaster's past may also play in the upcoming race. Already, stories of its trip to London where it was accidentally connected to 220V power have raised questions about what affect that may have had. While campaigning in Missouri last year, the toaster was also plugged into a double-ended connector with a Sunbeam stick-blender, although it has been alleged that neither one was turned on at the same time.

At a recent press conference, the toaster was optimistic at its chances. "Sproing," the toaster said, while providing nicely browned bagels for the assembled press. He later added, "Sproing."
