Managed to get hold of this and it runs perfectly .. BUT :
It drains the battery something wicked .. I mean like I can actually watch the bar draining as I drive and within 10 minutes or so the battery has just about had it.
Anyone got the same problem or is it because my handset is a prototype using old firmware.

That is the best option Mike if you can't update, use the in car charger. Keep it plugged in whenever you use Tomtom.

Already thought of that but I hate the idea tbh .. looks like im going to sell the M600i now then.
