it goes like this:
you change your theme, alarm works fine with vibration...switch to flight mode..alarm ceases to vibrate!!!
change to default theme, no problems at all from any type! (either with flight mode or not).
any idea whats going on??

Works for me, I just tried it with a custom theme and a normal alarm, the kind you set in the Time app. (Or did you mean calendar alarms? Didn't try that.)
I'd try a master reset or internal disk format (search this forum and you'll find how) and see if that helps. If it doesn't I'd try to reflash the phone with SEUS.

I did a master reset to cure the alarm problem, but now I've lost all my themes - apart from default!

This is really annoying...
I've missed too many mornings to my university because of this stupid bug
Is there any other recommendations APART from resetting ??

I've heard that p990 got this problem by birth. Thats why i don't trust and use it's alarm. I depend on my 6630 or k800. U should use another one alternative for this. Whats ur firmware version? If u got new one then wait for next one.

I have noticed, and mentioned, this particular problem with many themes other than a default one. Alarms just become whacky and unpredictable!
Try to uncheck all alarms, apply a standard theme, restart and test the alarms.
