When I took my T68i to the service centre for the latest s/w version the engineer watched me take my SIM out and said "Ooh, that's an old SIM, it won't perform very well with this phone". I said "how?" and he said "look it just won't believe me or not".
Obviously he is a prick, but is there an element of truth in what he says? My SIM was activated in Jan2001, and I don't know of any problems that I've had.....is he full of shit? I requested a new one from my service provider and they naturally asked me why I wanted one, and I can't really answer that cos I dunno what I will gain if anything?

There are differences between "old" SIMs and newer ones, but I cant remember what they are - something to do with power consumption I think.

its got something to do with the voltage they use
and the size of the memory

old sims are crap and waste the battery of newer phones

i dont know exactly

Yeah, the new sims come in 32k and 64k java. U can get mobile banking and some other stuff from the 64k sim. This post was posted from a R520

I was just speaking on the phone to someone from O2 who "put his life" on the fact that T68i has polyphonic ringing tones.

Is mine the only one that doesn't? ;o)

O2 don't seem to know their arse from their elbows when it comes to anything more technical than advising you how to switch your phone on! Unless I'm badly mistaken, T68's do not support poly-p ring tones

I kind of feel sorry for their staff as they don't seem to be trained well.

I agree....the one shite thing about the T68i is that the ring tones are really lame. If it had polyphonic tones it would make the phone a lot more attractive....

32 and to an extent 64 k sims are not new at all

32 have been used and around for a while, my knowledge of 64k is not great but i am pretty sure theyve been around just as long

both have been in production longer

mobile banking and can be supported on todays standards and 16k SIMs so ya dont need a higher capacity one to do such spangly things

all higher SIM's offer really to the user is more sms/pbook memory etc n to developers and sp's more space for maybe a few enhanced features of their SIm toolkit

i must say though iz not ever heard of higher capacity SIM's lessening battery life?!!?

anyone else !!??!!
