> P990 External GSM Car Aerial
Bookmark topic
Hi guys,
Just bought an external car aerial off Ebay, it stated it fitted Nokia, Ericsson etc, so bought it on impulse as it was about £35 worth of kit for next to nothing - good make + great quality, anyway that's not the problem.
Turns out the end of the 5m cable doesn't fit directly into the aerial out socket on the back of the P990. I thought all these were fairly generic, but the connector is slightly wrong and just a little to big in circumference to shove in the hole.
I am told this will fit Nokia CARK etc, and on researching various web sites, car accessory sites and google, I am fairly sure that the connector is a basic/generic "FME" type.
You can buy adaptors for various phones, but for some reason I cannot find one that appears compatible with the P990. Expansys has an ORA adaptor for K700, but the picture end shows a male connector and I believe whatever adaptor I get it needs to be a female end.
I've googled everything I can and searched various mobile car kits, but nearly everything mentions Nokia. I looked at accessories too on SE's site but nothing relates to the external aerial port - all I can find is the usual bluetooth and headset stuff.
Has anyone here connected their P990 to a GSM car aerial? Is there a better solution? I have an HCH-64 P990 Car holder which I plan to use with this - which has the cut out hole in the right place for connecting car aerial. Therefore, preferably, any adaptor would need to be an "L" end so it fits behind the car holder and trails down etc.
Anyone know the correct tech name for the port on the back of the P990? Anyone know where I can get an adaptor. Surely the P990 is not unique, so there must be one that is universal to say P/K/W series etc (ie. more popular phones = more chance of getting accessories!)
Thanks in advance!
Dan

I have one of these adaptors somewhere, will try and find it. I assume you are on about the one that goes into the holder it's self, and then connects to the aerial lead you have. If I find it I will post up a pic of it for you. I did have several of these so will go have a look for one.
OK read your post again, and yes I may well have the thing you are after, it is an SE part that comes with car kits, that clips into the holder it's self.

Thanks volvoman , yep that sounds like the part - one end should fit into the back of the phone via the holder, the cable should be long enough to run down the clips on the back of the holder and I'm guessing the other end will plug into the main generic end I already have - FME type plug thing.
I'm suprised they're so hard to find - especially as SE don't seem to stock them.
PM me again if you find one spare

OK I have found a spare one. Cable and little adaptor that goes with it. Dont think you need the little adaptor, as I think that is only needed for Motorola cables, but I may be wrong, but I have the full thing anyway, so if you give me your details, I will send it out to you.
