I am wanting to go and visit my friend in Newcastle from 9/03/07 - 11/03/07. I have been on various sites and the cheapest train ticket i can find is £63.10 for a return.

I don't have a rail card as i don't travel long distances at all so didn't see the point of paying £20 for one. My friend has one though and with one it would only be around £41 which i would be happy to pay.

What i am wondering is could i use my friends card details to buy my ticket online or would i have to produce the card when i am departing. £63 is a hell of alot of money just for one weekend.

Thanks

I am pretty sure you would have to show it on the train if the inspector asks to check your tickets.

haynesycop I presume your talkin about the young persons railcard yeah?

I always had to show mine to the ticket guy on the train when they came around so you'll need your own card really. see the website here http://www.youngpersons-railcard.co.uk/faq.htm#6 . also if you try sayin you've forgotten your card youll have to pay the full fare :S

if you think about it tho the card costs £20 but youll save £21 on that ticket alone. so the railcard pays for itself straight away.

I thought this would be the case. I would still have to pay out £60 odd though. £20 for the card and £40 for the ticket. Oh well, guess i haven't got much choice.

Thanks

Yeah but it takes 7 hours lol. Think i will just buy the railcard less hassle even if it is more expensive.
