> Ram issue question
Bookmark topic
i went on reading your reviews about the p990i and noticed the ram complaint of many users... then i went to the sony ericsson site.. and it says ram is 64mb not 15 as ppl say... it has the same amount as the p910i
Now my question... has the ram issue been resolved with new phones... or is there something i`m missing.
thanks

Both P910 and P990 have 64mb internal storage (non-volatile); however P910 had 32mb of volatile RAM, and P990 has 64mb RAM.
This RAM is the operating memory, not the internal storage - so the P990 has twice the operating memory.
The P990 is also a resource hog, to put it mildly. Once the phone has been started and is up and running, you are left with 15mb (on average) as your useable operating RAM. Which quite frankly, as you have read, sucks. We want more RAM. And its getting there s-l-o-w-l-y with every firmware upgrade.
Does that somewhat answer your question?

wow that was fast.. thanks bro...
so the OS takes up all that RAM... i have a Qtek 8500 and it has only 15MB of RAM free.
considering the alternatives out there...and the fact that i loved the p900 i`ll give it a try...

Don't forget that's 15MB free before doing anything. I'm down to 5.6MB without trying very hard. Not long to go before it hard resets or just freezes, probably during a call

It should not do that with the latest f/w. Before so, it should close some apps you have running in the background

I have the latest f/w. It froze when making a call a couple ofdays ago and it affected the bluetooth car kit at the same time (SE HCB-300). I had to remove the battery from the phone and turn off the ignition on the car to get everything working again.
Down to 5.3MB now. All I've done is make and receive a couple of calls today.

So you're telling me SE's flagship, the P990 has less RAM than my K790a! Because AFAIK my K790 uses the amount of free internal memory for RAM, which, if you save everything on the M2, could be 70MB+. And I doubt the OS takes up over 20 MB.
So much for the P990 being a powerhouse.

What you are talking about on your K790 is not ram, its your internal memory, lets say disk. Has nothing to do with ram

Internal memory is like a harddisk. here user can store their files. And ram is a supporting memory for processor which user can't access directly.
