My Pc when started says something like windows may not have shutdown properly, then gives the option to restart normally or from last known good settings. You can click either option, and then windows xp kicks in. Then the pc just restarts itself.
I have tried running my boot disk, and that seems to load all the drivers. It then says starting windows, and I get a message on the screen which says,
Examining 194475 MB disk 0 at Id on bus 0 on vias raid........
The pc then hangs at this stage. Any ideas or help, much appreciated.

mate im guessing what im about to say is pretty obvious and youve tried it, but none the less....
*start it up in safe mode.. .(f8 at start up i think)..... and run a scan.....
also disconnect any new hardware you may of added.....
sounds like a windows problem though matey and may need a reinstall or a recovery (although ive never got on well with teh recovery program)..... but you know you can gte all your diles off teh HDD before a reinstall by setting the jumpers to slave and putting it in another machine dont you
sorry im no help matey - cyco is your man, but he's sunning it up

I have tried to start in safe mode, but even that does not work.
I also cant run the boot disk, as this is where it hangs up.

or are you connecting to the motherboard?

Doesn't a HDD with bad sectors bring up such issues?

No spares for the pc. It is covered under warranty with Mesh, but I am awaiting a reply from them at the moment.
