www.txtdrop.com announced that it is now offering a completely free text messaging Dashboard widget for Mac OS X. TxtDrop.com’s new Macintosh OS X widget for Apple computers, allows users to send free text messages right from their desktop. The program also allows users to receive replies to their text messages directly via email.

CallWave also do a Mac 'Visual Voicemail' Widget for US Carriers:

Flip the widget over by clicking the hidden 'i' in the bottom-right hand corner of the widget.

In the Mobile: section, enter your UK mobile number in international format e.g. +447712987654

In the Email: section, enter your email address.

In the Carrier: pop-up, choose "International" at the very bottom.

Then click done, to flip the widget over.

Click the 'International' radio button on the front of the widget.

Make sure all your mobile numbers in the Mac Address Book are in International format e.g. +44 7712 987654

Then just choose one in the Widget from the pop-up, type your message, and Send.

Or you can just type the phone number in the following format:
447712987654
