My joystick was not working well so I opened the phone and sprayed some WD40 in there. The joystick now works again but the WD40 must have gotten under the LCD and now the whole screen is much darker than before. If I take the screen off, can I clean the WD40 off or will I now need to buy a new screen?

Why use WD40

You could use that gel stuff that is used to lubricate the laser rails in DVD players etc. It doesn't conduct electricity and is much much easier to place than WD40.

Yeah, in retrospect I shouldn't have used WD40. I did do a google search beforehand though and read on a board somewhere that it was OK to use. And it did fix the joystick. I'm just bummed that it got under the screen.

Back to the question though - is the screen fixable i.e. if I open the phone and clean underneath the screen will it go back to normal or do I need to replace?

if its on the surface of the lcd you should be able to wipe it off, but if it has gone under the glass of the lcd, you may need to replace it

I'd say you will need to replace it. Look at it this way, you need to remove it anyway, so pull it apart and see if you can clean it, if not get a new screen and reassemble (you can assemble the phone before buying a new screen without putting the covers back on just to test the screen)

WD40 will lubricate rusty surfaces, cuz it is a sinthetic lubricant, but for my cell phone???? NO WAY!!!

i read a year ago a tutorial on how to revive some pads like yours, but it involved some kind of oxigen based spray or something like that, and u had to leave the cell dry for at least 2-3 hours....

Yeah, I know. Although I have to say the phone joystick is working great now. If the WD40 hadn't gotten under the LCD it would have been a big success
