I'm up for a new contract. I was going to go for a P990, but with all the firmware issues and the branding problems I'm a bit put off TBH. I know there are ways around the branding/SE firmware update issue, but it seems to me they invalidate your warranty, so presumably if I returned a faulty phone to my provider (Orange) and they realised it had been altered I'd be stuffed.

Anyway, I thought about trying one of those "free line rental contracts" and buying the sim-free successor to the P990 with the cashback.

However you hear a lot of dodgy stories about these contracts - i.e the companies involved setting such impossible hurdles to actually qualify for the cashback, that it is effectively impossible to claim.

Has anyone actually successfully claimed this cashback and which, if any, providers can be trusted to pay up?

The more replies the better obviously. Even very short ones just giving the names of reliable providers will help to build up a picture of who can be trusted. It might even be of help to other esato FMs.

Done this a long time ago through E2SAVE.com (part of Carphone Warehouse)and the money did come back but as PK say, its down to you to provide the correct information and at the right time!

Might be worth giving www.justmobilephones.co.uk (also a sub of e2ave.com)

And keep copies of everything...

anyone have experiences with mobileshop cashbacks?

I usually use dial-a-phone who refund within a week of claim but, alhough mobileshop quote 60 days for cashback, I'm still waiting for my first one after 85 days now.

They say they have processing problems and are doing it manually so they can be accurate and yet they keep offering me vouchers for argos or other stores, but surely the effort in manually checking and processing that is no different to doing it for vouchers?

They cannot even give a timeframe for when they will process my first claim and they already have my second claim and will process that in turn rather than combining them (to save effort IMHO)

totally not impressed by mobileshop
