i held off asking this question until i could debrand my m600i and be sure this problem wasn't just related to the terrible vodafone software i was on - but i'm on R5B2 (latest) firmware now and still having problems, so here goes -

has anyone actually got voice dialling working on their m600i?

i've tried recording various tags for various people, and not one of them has worked. they sound ok when i play them back, but when i try and call it's "no match found" everytime - either with the wired handsfree or just handheld.

i really miss this feature from all my old se phones - so is it just plain broken on the M600i, or have i just not got the knack?

Try to speak louder when you try to call someone thru your voicedial, usually that was my problem. Try also with and without BT headset, that also might be the problem.

I am not sure if there is a big difference between the tow phones when it comes to this, but on my P990i I have the voice tags working with a BT headset (SE HBH-610a) or without the BT.

yet this voice recognition is very sensitive. I am saying this because I just came out of cold, and during that time my voice was different due to the coughing and all. Guess what, the phone did NOT recognize any of the voice tags, which makes sense, cos it was really a different tonality in the voice.

I've used voice dialling on four or five SE handsets before this, so I'm used to the usual problems with not talking loud enough, variations in voice etc, and I've tried stupidly hard to overcome all that with the M600i - but it's just not happening. My phone is just refusing to recognise anything. And that's not through BT or anything complicated, but just through the built in mic or the standard wired headset.

Wierd.

Listening carefully to the tags when they're played back, they all have that odd static that music playing suffers from as well (not that it bothers me too much on the music player). Is it possible that's related? Ie, are the voice tags not matching because I'm not matching the static? If so, I'd have thought it was a widespread issue accross the UIQ3 range, just as the static is..?
