Analysts say Sony Ericsson’s W880 device might pose a competitive threat to Apple’s iPod going forward.
Say Analysts Dresdner Kleinwort in a research note published yesterday, the analysts mention that the appeal of Sony Ericsson as a partner to the distributors/retailers as well as service providers/operators is poised to rise significantly in the upcoming few weeks. Sony Ericsson’s W880 device might pose a competitive threat to Apple’s iPod going forward, provided it is marketed aggressively and priced affordably,the analysts say.

i am really not an iphone fan, but it would be the last for me to go for w880, its definitaley a downgrade, even k750 has got more features to offer than that metalic calculator clone... i love it when no name whoevers compare things...

I hate the ipod/itunes/i-jobs/iiiiiiiiii... And i-Think currently there's a bit of a back-lash-atmosphere in the gadget-media: vista gets slated, ps3 pisses-off all of Europe, i-phone gets ridiculed re. 3g etc., etc., I'd hope the momentum keeps building so that the big-ones don't get too comfy, and good alternatives get a chance... but, as they say on tv: people, vote with your thumb... Well, a lot of thumbs are up peoples ar**s - that's why they heavily rely on the i-pods scroll wheely thingy...
As to the w880... Will probably take 2 years before it's out in Ireland, so what do I know??? Rubbish - that won't beat the i-pod! The only thing that can beat the i-pod is Jobs' own godcomplex and his arrogant disregard for the reasons why people embraced the i-world in the first place... he believes he's infallible, like some sect-leader.

phones may have improved, but they have a long way to go before they match the iPod's clean, easy to use interface. And the intuitiveness and seamlessness of iPod-iTunes integration can't be beat.
In contrast, the
app is clumsy and limited, Disc2Phone is a joke, and the
USB phone interface inspires only fear. Not to mention memory cost - an 8GB MSDP card (by itself!) costs the same or more than an 8GB iPod Nano.
I bought my W810 to combine the purchase of a new phone and iPod Nano. I now find myself shopping for an iPod Nano + non-music playing phone. The Nano is far and away better than my W810 for loading, navigating, and playing music.

The walkman player on my W880i is great for what i use it for. I have 15 albums loaded onto my 1GB stick. I dont wan to carry around a phone and a music player. I also have all my music saved as MP3 so it wont work on an Ipod and i dont really want to go through the hassle and disk space of making them into AAC.

I never use WMAs but I noticed when I loaded some to my phone that I did not know were WMAs it played them!
Something older Walkmans couldnt do.

But you still have to carry around headphones... and iPod Nanos and Shuffles are tiny, making them very easy to bring along. Plus, when your phone breaks, how will you listen to music?

My apologies. i was under the impression that the Ipod didnt like MP3's as my friends Ipod didnt recognise them.
I normally have my stereo bluetooth on me for listening to music and for making calls. If I had phone and ipod I would need to have my phone, Bt headset, Ipod and ipod headphones.
