Hey guys,

Haven't been active on here for a couple of months now, seeing as my K750/W800i Mobile Phone broke :S, not sure why.. but now I have a question.

I just bought the NOKIA N800i for about £250 of eBay and I know this is not 100% a mobile phone or a PDA but I am interested to see what are peoples views on this are. I know most people will say it's useless seeing as you need internet access to do 99% of the things, but for me it's fine as my University has wireless connectivity throught all the buildings, most highstreet coffee shops in London have WIFI including some pubs and trains so it's not a problem, also I will mostly use it for listening to music and watching videos so Internet will only be for when making calls, checking mail and other things.

My first question is that although it runs a mobile OS open source version of Linux I was wondering is it or will it be possible to hack this and format most of the firmware to use the Windows Mobile OS software which is more for a portable computer rather than a PDA, also Linux is open source which is the main reason why I got the N800, as the more and more developers use it the more kinds of 3rd party softwares will get released.

ie: Canola is similar to something like Media Center, uses the same sort of minimalist interface but obviously can't record TV, but can do pretty much the same thing, view music and also run in background, view images, videos, play radio

My second question is are there any wireless remote softwares that would work with the N800.
I built myself a Home Theatre PC which runs Vista Home Premium and has bluetooth 2.0 support. The N800 is a perfect design for home automation remote.. most remotes just allow you to scan analogue remotes etc and control everything in one system but if programmed right I think you could do ALOT more with this device, also because it has a WLAN connection so there is more to play around with.

If there are anymore 3rd party softwares for N800 could you please inform me about them..

nice purchase with the N800 (i buoght one on release day)... Just a few pointers really:

1. In theory u could hack the operating system on this device but i wouldnt recommend it... Nokia frown heavily on this as its already a nice open source operating system!!!

2. There isnt a remote app at the mo as the device is still new but keep an eye out by going to google an searching an it will appear eventually i think...

Just enjoy it in all its glory instead of wanting to ruin it with Microsoft Rubbish!
