I have a Sony P990i. However this phone often needs firmware upgrades and has some stabiliyt issues so I am looking for a phone that can share data with the P990i (preferably using the same PC Suite) and be stable.
I will carry both phones and use the P990i most times so the second phone should not be a multi featured (no camera required) expensive phone. I was thinking of the M600. Does this make sense. Is it more stable than the Sony P990i?

I guess your current choices, if you want to share the same pc suite, are M600 or W950
if you choose to get an unbranded M600 then you will find it very stable and a pleasure to use, especially the qwerty keyboard which the P990 also has but the W950 does not

no, the SE smartphones (i.e. UIQ) use the smartphone suite, the non smartphones (i.e. non UIQ) use the standard pc suite

i don't think the m600 is more or less stable than p990
both run quite the same software platform
and updates are released equal (sometimes ..)

however, as someone who has used all three UIQ 3 models at length its clear the P990 does suffer from stability problems more than M600 and w950
at one time, I even tried doing exactly the same activities on M600 and P990 for 3 days and P990 had different behaviour at different times such as performance restarts and kernel-exec problems
while they are based on similar firmware there is clearly enough difference that makes the M600 more stable than the P990, hence I got rid of the P990 (at a great loss btw) and kept the M600
I should mention that this was before the very latest update so its possible this latest update has improved P990 stability to be comparable to M600 but then it should also be remembered that M600 has been out longer than P990

Yes, newer fw made P990 a very stable and reliable phone with much, much better memory management. Mine is currently active full 7 days (of quite heavy usage) and free ram between 10-11mb. Everything work as it should be so I am not yet considering manual restart.

Yes koto, it has become alot better. But not much, much better memory management. There is still alot of work to be done with the memory leak. Besides this, im very pleased with it now

Didnt say it is perfect Tail and i dont think it will be (probably next series).
But if i had to restart it manually every third of even second day because of memory leak and now i dont do it even after full seven days (have 10.4mb ram) than for me it is much, much better memory management. I never had problems with bugs or so but due to memory leak or bad memory management my phone needed much usage care and regular manual restart. Now as i said it is totaly different story.

So other than the W950 and M600 no other phone uses the same version of PC Suite. My ieda was to have the second phone as a bakcup so that atleast one phone is active esp when I am updating the P990.
Do both phones have to have the same version of UIQ3 to be compatible? The compatibility I seek is only to have the same contact list on both phones.
I found out today that the W880 is rather expensive for the backup phone so I am consdiering the K550 (if they can give me one in white).
So now my search includes the
W950 (no card slot to transfer my pics)
M600
ad 2 that MIGHT not be compatible (no UIQ3)
K550 (14gms heavier than the W880)
W880 (light and thin but too expensive for a back up phone)
