Yo!
has anyone been watching this?
it's compulsive viewing for me and my flatmate.
I know where my meat comes from but i've never seen an animal slaughtered, and while it's not the prettiest site in the world it's hardly inhumane, i can def-o say it hasn't put me off meat at all in the slightest, in fact it's got me more the other way, I used to go to a proper butcher to get my meat but in the last year i've grown lazy and waitrose has sufficed, however i think i will be heading back to my local butcher now, al the programme reminds me of is my ex, her family own a farm and the freshest piece of beef i had was, well i'll give you a wee timeline!
0930 - taken to slaughterhouse.
1030 - cow killed.
1030-1100 - butchered
1230 - on my plate.
was by far the tastiest beef I have ever ever tasted and believe me when I say i've tried lots!
anyone got any views on the programme?

It is of course a matter of personal preference, but I don't much care for un-aged beef. I have had beef, where the cow had been slaughtered in the early afternoon, and we ate it for supper. I found that particular piece of meat to be less flavoursome and tender than properly aged alternatives. In my opinion, beef which has been dry-aged for anything between 2-3 weeks (depending on the cut) has the best combination of flavour/texture/tenderness.
A bit on aging beef:

EDIT: Found some more on dry-aged beef, which is my preference. You said that you were going away from Waitrose, but they actually have a nice selection of sirloin dry-aged steak. Also, I've found that practically all the beef at Selfridges and Harrods is aged for up to 21 days. Anyway, on to the links

EDIT AGAIN... So as not to go completely off-topic, I haven't seen the programme, but one of my colleagues was telling me about it, and she found it quite disturbing (she didn't seem to think beyond the fact that meat magically appears at Tesco et al, shrink-wrapped and ready to eat. She was genuinly disturbed at the thought that tonight's beef wellington was an ex-cow...).

This program made me feel Upset and totally sick how they Slaughtered the poor defenseless Pigs,
I am a Meat eater myself but to
watch how they killed the Animal,
Cooked it then ate it made me mortified,
how can television even
show anything like that!
When i was 10/11 a friends mom took us along to buy a chicken,
we saw it get chosen, then taken to a empty room where they slite it's neck, bleed it hung it up next thing we know it's in the bag to take home,
didn't put me off chicken but seeing how they killed a pig made me sick!

imo, if u r a meat eater, u should be fully prepared to see and understand how it is produced right from those pretty spring lambs frolicing in the fields to chops with mint sauce.

i've worked at a slaugher house where about 2000 pigs were transformed into delicious meat
but there are many ways to kill the animal, they used to electocude the pics and indeed ... it's not a happy sight to see. but than again ... we need meat at our plate

Personally I think to protest against or dislike a war and murder but then to enjoy meat and not care for these
other animals (us being animals too of course) being killed/mudered is rather hypocritical. For they feel, think and cry... they're different to us and so that makes their 'life' unimportant? Life being something that we see as so important and valuable, yet we do not hesitate to take it from them simply because they were born different, is this not extreme racism?
