> P800 and Wifi

I have been reading all the news on the P800 since early this year, and have read all the posts on esato about it too. Only just got round to registering though!
my question is this: the p800 is supposed to be a phone for all, including business users, and connectivity is a major issue for business users, and other users. Bluetooth is useful for many things, but i think that Wifi is going to be the next big thing that everyone will soon be using. Thsi si clear from it's unclusion in all the new Vaio laptops and MAC are also pushing it.
Plus, the new Ipaq has become teh first PDA to include wifi. Will the P800 be able to support this via a plug in? i don't know how open it will be to external connections, but wifi is something that people will want and it could hold some pepole back from buying the P800. What expansion slots does it have that could possibly enable wifi to ever be used with the P800?

Since the P800 is a mobile phone itself with GPRS and the possiblity to connect to the internet through it's modem I don't think WiFi will be that important. Also WiFi draws way too much power compared to bluetooth, which would is fast enough.

The reason i was asking about wifi is that in an office environment it is esay to connect to the LAN and WAN through Wifi. So to have that always on connection when in the office through the P800 would be really good, plus it's a good deal faster running wifi through a broadband/dsl/T1 connection.
What are the possibilities of expansion though generally?

The P800 has a Memorystick duo interface, I'm not sure if that port support I/O or if it only supports memory. But if it supports I/O a WiFi card might be possible.
Another way would be to use bluetooth instead of Wifi in the office. But I don't know if the P800 actually allows you to access internet in any other way than through the internal modem.

this is the thing to do with wifi, although it probably won't be necessary with devices like the P800 although to create a LAN it might be useful.

I don't like the term WiFi. I'll call it by it's actual IEEE designation instead. WiFi is actually several different networking standards. The most widely used right now is the 802.11b standard which has 10Mbps transfers and is limited to 100ft or less normally. I wouldn't say that this is a good solution to wireless because the range is too short. To build a network of 802.11b would be insanely expensive. T-mobile HotSpot is the 802.11b service that is currently worldwide. You can only use it at specified locations though. It defeats the purpose of being mobile. The other standards out are 802.11a which was even shorter range but higher speed and 802.11x(???). The P800 applies to 2.5G standards and works with Bluetooth, GPRS, and GSM. It is truly mobile and a great out-of-office connectivity tool.

Sorry i meant WiFi imbedded in a PDA. BESIDES, email into a handheld device is still killer need for Professionals.
