Wondering what the REAL difference is between
branded and unbranded phone firmware.
I have two W810i phones.
One branded Rogers.
The other unbranded.
This is what I've noticed
when checking the field service
menu (>*>>*
(Doing this from memory so the names may
not be exact but I'll post the exact names
tonight)
Branded W810i:
==============
Filesystem : 102494_124_ROGERS_R4EA031
Main : R4EA031_GENERIC_HN_FOTA_HELEN
Un-branded W810i:
=================
Filesystem : 102494_124_GENERIC_R4EA031
Main : R4EA031_GENERIC_America1_HN
So looks like the MAIN firmware is generic even
on the Rogers branded phone.
Does this mean that the ONLY difference
between a branded and unbranded phone is
the FILESYSTEM part of the firmware, and has
nothing to do with the MAIN firmware ?

I think Rogers' branding keeps the original factory firmware relatively uncustomized. I came across this when I had my old S710a reflashed. The only "branding" I could find was the renaming of the "Ringtones" folder to "Ringtunes."
From
http://iunlock.com/shop/product_info.php?products_id=316:
Currently the latest versions for this phone are:
R1A032 (Decustomized)
R1A033 (Cingular customization)
R2A016 (Decustomized*)
...
*This firmware is completely decustomized. It is designed for Rogers Canada and contains the word "Rogers" in the service menu but there is no branding within the software. You may request this firmware regardless of your phone's original provider.
