I have a 60GB iPod as my "main" music device, since it can hold all of my music (I have 350+ CDs) and photos. I bought my W810i as a flash-based complement to it, mainly for the gym (a bad place for HDD-based music players), and also as a backup for when my iPod needs repair. This works OK, except for the following:

ITMS-purchased music isn't supported (of course).
iPod's interface >> app (v1.0, anyway) in my opinion.
phones don't integrate too well with iTunes. (I use SyncTunes, which is OK but not great.)

I'm wondering if I should stick with phones and live with the above shortcomings, or move to CyberShot phones and buy an iPod Nano. On the one hand, having just the one device for mupltiple functions is convenient. (A convenience missed when my W810 is out for service, but anyway...). On the other hand, the iPod works way better for music than my W810. And getting any phone to match a Nano's capacity is expensive, since MSDP/MS Micro memory costs the same or more than an iPod Nano of the same capacity. For example, a 8GB MSDP card is ~$300 from Sony, while 8GB Nano from Apple is $249!

What do you think? And how does the new app compare with the iPod, should the time come for a new phone?

Personally, I think I'll be sticking to an SE phone plus an iPod for some time (unless the iPhone end up being any good, and cheap enough).

My iTunes Library (99% not from the iTS) is about 17GB in size, so can't fit in any currently available SE phone.

Plus, I wouldn't even want to attempt navigating almost 5000 songs with an SE joystick controlled interface.

5 years on, no one has come up with anything better than the iPods interface with click-wheel. It's just so much faster and easier to find the music you're looking for.

Also, I find iTunes with the iPod dock so much easier to get music onto my iPod than any solution for getting music onto my phone.

The fact that I can just drop my iPod into the dock, iTunes automatically starts and syncs any new music/playlists and then I can just unplug it without even touching the computer, is 1000x easier than with my phone.

That's just my opinion...

Oh...and why not get yourself an iPod shuffle for the gym? Smaller and more convenient than the W810i...

The Shuffle has the same problems as the W810 - no click-wheel and no display (the W810's app tells you nothing). I really think the Nano's the best choice.

And I agree, you can't beat the absolute simplicity of iPod + iTunes. Connecting a phone to a Mac over USB is scary.

Too bad the best price on K790a's is $380 right now (not to mention $200 for a 4GB Nano), so I'm stuck with my W810 for a good long while.

Mobile Master is nice tool for SE phones and it now can synchtronze the iTunes playlists to SE phones. Works great with my K800, even the playlists are created at the phone.
Once configured Mobile Master properly it comes up when you connect the phone and then just one click to e.g. sync the playlists.

Do you really need a display and click-wheel for gym use? I find I never want to choose different tracks or need to know whats playing when in the gym.

I've already set-up some gym specific playlists, so I know I'll be listening to something I like.
