Hi folks,
Complete newbie who's finally found what looks to be a decent forum for SE phones. Ive just joined and I have a problem. I recently purchased a 2nd hand SE P900, and Ive been playing with it now for one day. The phone arrived with just the handset (with flip), battery, wall charger and instruction booklet. In the short time Ive been playing with it, the battery has required one full charge and I had to stick it back on charge in the early eve. So theres one of the probs. I have ordered a new battery for it hoping its that, but I was wondering if something is running in the background eating up my power. How do I find out??
Secondly, the bluetooth wont work. When I say it wont work, I mean that when I tell the phone to turn on bluetooth, it freezes up on me. The bluetooth doesnt come on then freeze, it just freezes when you try to enable it (at least I know bluetooth isnt eating my power..... i think)
Other than that, I love the phone so far, its my first step into the PDA type of phone. I have had a couple of windows based smart phones in the past and thought they were kinda cool, so this seemed like the next logical step. (with a bit of luck I might get the P990i when my contract is due for renewal in october)
Oh, and I have a query! I never got a docking station or any software for it, but I know the software is available from the Sony Ericsson site, so thats easy enough to get. Ive also ordered the USB data cable for it so I can update the firmware. Im wondering if updating the firmware will solve my bluetooth problem, maybe even the power issue. Is their any way of finding out if your firmware has been updated. Also, master reset, anyone have any views on this??
Thanx for reading my ramblings, but its a new world for me, and this forum certainly seems to be the right choice
Oh yeah, one last thing........ Hello!!!

for P900, SMAN is a very good tool to find out what is running and to clean up memory for idle programs.
As far as a master reset, that will not hurt. Might not fix the Bluetooth though.
there is a lot of info about the UIQ 2.x phone and issues at my symbian

Thx mate. My query I now have about master reste is, whats the code? I found on some forums that the default is 0000, but when I enter this, I get the incorrect code message. I was wondering if the master reset code can be changed, as this is a 2nd hand phone I was wondering if it was changed by its previous owner

About the battery, remember this is probably a 3 year old phone! My P900's battery couldn't hold a charge for more than a few hours after 2 years of everyday usage. Definitely get a new one if you like the P900 and want to stay with it.

Well I did order a battery the day after I got the phone, as I was so disapointed with the length of time you get from the battery. But then I read else where on the forum that if your GPRS is on fulltime, it failry sucks up the power. I did notice that my GPRS was permanently on when I got my phone, but I just put it down to the type of phone it was. Its now changed so the GPRS only comes on when I need it and what a difference. This is now day 2 since the GPRS was turned off and my battery is sitting at 43% and Im a heavy texter, so Im a heavy user of my phone. One charge, on the second day and 43%, cant be bad can it?
My newfound query is, I wonder if I'll get charged for my GPRS being on for that length of time. From what I believe, you only get charged for the content you upload or download and not for the length of time that your connected, but in this day and age where you practically get charged for breathing, im expecting a bill

ooo, I found out about the service menu thing (jog*jog etc) and I checked my software compared to other peoples software on this forum, and it appears my phone has never been updated, all my codes are way behind everyone elses.
Im hoping when I get my USB cable and update the phone that the bluetooth issue will deffo be resolved

Interesting.
I have my P900 for 3 years, I never turn it off and I am a heavy user. Still after 3 years of continues usage, the battery holds for at least 2 full days.

Right folks, my USB cable arrived from ebay and Im going insane because I cant even get the f**kin' cable installed let alone update my phone. The cable is a USB data cable from a company called 'foof', its for the SE P900 (as well as other models, and the computer recognises it as 'OTI USB-to-Serial Comm Port (Com21). It came with a drivers disk and the comp recognises the cable has been plugged in (USB port) and starts the plug n play installer, so it then asks for a disc, which it came with, and everything goes to plan. It installs and tells me its done and to reboot to finalize installation.
On reboot, the cable isnt installed, there's the telltale yellow exlamation mark under device manager. Ive even went to driver guide.com and got the latest driver, but to no avail. Please help me out as Im goin freakin' nuts here! I was so looking forward to flashing and updating my phone and I cant even get past step one. Im pretty good with comps, Ive been building, programming, and repairing em for years, but this one has me stumped. Any clues?
