Hello

My P990i makes a beep before every outgoing call. I type the number, press Call and about a second later, a beep plays, and then depending on where I am dialling, a few seconds later it starts ringing (or whatever), I was wondering if this is a phone thing or a network thing? Does anyone else's P990i do the same thing?

The beep plays out of the earpiece, not the speaker (unless I am on speakerphone)

I am on O2:UK (postpaid), has never happened on any phone I have owned before as far as I recall so am just interested!

Cheers

It confirms that the phone has registered the call with the GSM base station. Perfectly normal.

My N70 does this whenever I call a friend who uses an iMate K-Jam. He recently ported his number to another network so I thought it could be that.

yeah, THAT one IS normal - it's to let you know that your friend is no longer on the net that his number's prefix might make you believe he is on - i.e., by prefix you might think you're phoning s.o. on your net when in fact the person ported the number to a different net... That's different to the mini-beep we hear before EVERY connection (not that it bothers me).

If you look on the screen when it does it on a nokia it means call divert is active
