it will display the name if you have it added to your contacts. if not, only the numbers shows up. it's not like your caller id on the land lines.

It might be related to this problem I had a while ago:
If you have a number in both the phone memory an the SIM-card, and also have a voice control for that number, a lot of strange stuff happens:

Contacts are not shown by name on calls and messages (not sure if this happens to all contacts or just the problematic ones)
Messages from the problematic contacts become "incomplete".
The contact app. can't read/write Contacts from/to the SIM-card anymore.

The simple solution is to wipe the contacts from the SIM-card, but if you only have your problematic phone to play with, you have to remove the voice control first.

It happens to all my contact
I have not set any voice controls
My phone is not reading the sim contacts so i put my sim in another phone and deleted all my contacts and again copied them from the back up which i had on my other phone and even deleted the phone nos from P990 and when i put my sim back in my P990 it read the contacts finally
I copied all the nos back to the phone and now its working fine
Thanks Firetech for some tips u gave

Glad to help
The problem seems to be more severe than I thought, though...
I didn't experience anything until I added voice contact, but there may be another trigger...

you prbably know this anyways. but i'm sure you need to include the area code aswell as the 6 digit number for names to display.
