Hi

What is the small earth icon for on the top right of a K800i. Is it for gprs?. I am abit paranoid thinking it is using gprs right this second. How can I turn it off? On 3 by the way.

Yup,thats Gprs session in progress...some data transfer is occurring when that icon comes up.Top turn it off,check in connectivity and select 'GSM only'(sorry dont have that phone to guide u precisely).

When in use it goes from colour to black and white.
To turn on GSM only go to settings, connectivity, data communication,
preferred service. Seto to CS only for no GPRS

Setting it to circuit switched (CS) is dangerous as this method of Internet Dial-up comes from your allocated monthly minutes (I'm not sure if the set up is automatic or not but best not to presume

), which could make it expensive if used.

In order to switch GRRS off, on my

I just press and hold the back button when the phone is in stand-by.

If this doesn't work then SETTINGS>DATA COMMUNICATION>CLOSE CONNECTION should do it.

As long as you have no applications running that use GPRS then it should cost you nothing, however I understand your concern. When you go to the Data Communication menu, is it showing you that you have an open connection. Do you have a Close Connection option there?

I can't confirm what they charge for browsing their portal, sorry.

When you restart your handset does it dial up GPRS automatically?

Weird, sounds like some sort of bug.

I know your probably not being charged for the time you are online with GPRS, you will proabably be charged by the amount of data sent and received - thats IF you're being charged at all by 3 for viewing their own portal.

Then when you REALLY want to dial change the number back. That way it
can never dial the gateway and you don't get charged for it !
