Hi,

I have just got the 950i and expected a lot of software to be compatible with it, but everything I try says that it cannot be open.

I have seen that people have used various applications successfully with the w950i, but I was wondering if I have done anything wrong?

Could someone point me in the right direction for apps that definitely work?

Also are there any firmware updates etc that I might be missing?

Hi Henno2000, can you be more specific as to what softwares you tried to install?

There could be many reasons if we don't know what it is you are trying to install. For example, if you are trying to install softwares meant for the P910 generation, they will not work because they are meant for UIQ2 operating system. Your W950 is UIQ3 generation.

XDA runs on Windows Mobile software which is different from the UIQ3 symbian software that powers your W950. It is just like you cannot install Windows software on your Apple computer... different platform...

As for the generic symbian softwares website, you need to go to the homepage and click on your phone brand, which is "SonyEricsson". After that, you need to choose your phone model. However, W950 is not listed. So, your next best option is P990, which also runs the UIQ3 OS. What can work on P990 should work on the W950.

W950 uses UIQ3 software, exactly the same has P990 and M600...so if you search this forum for P990 or M600 software, or generaly UIQ3 software, you´ll have you answer

IMHO having a (new) topic just about W950 software makes no sense

The W950 does not support Java CDC 1.0 jars. And although one might think this would only apply to jad/jar installation files only (like jText), there are Java software out there that are installed via a .sis file (eg. j-dictionary); these will not work on the W950.
