Hi All,
I've search around regarding this and can't find out the reason why you have to fully charge your phone before updating the firmware? I only see time after time people saying to make sure it is done.
Is this to do with the new firmware setting the 100% at the current level at time of update.
I only ask as I've just changed my CDA code and want to update the firmware, but don't have my cable to hand. It's at home but I'm impatient and won't be home for about 7 hours....

@stiltzkin
The reason is very simple as you are flashing and writing files if your battery dies during the process you will be left with a brick. In fact Nokia actually advise having the phone plugged in and chargeing whilst upgrading the firmware. You may be impatient but do you really won't to risk bricking your phone?

I've never had mine fully charged when I upgraded. Didn't believe it was necessary. But of course it wasn't near depletion. Mine still isn't a brick

Same here. As long as you have enough charge to complete the update (Usually takes 10-15 minutes) you should be OK. As a rule of thumb I'd make sure your battery was in the green - i.e. about 50% charged at least to be on the safe side.

It's like recommending the removal of the SIM from the phone when flashing. Pointless!

@ adara, not really, it has quite a bit of importance actually, because i have ahd experience with my W900, if for some reason during the update the firmware is corrupted, then your fone would be dead, or you would have the White Screen Of Death as some people call it (WSOD), and then repeatedly turning on the fone with the white screen blinking would kill the battrey, so in the case that you are left with a dead fone, you should have enough battery left to flash the firmware again. Or also for the reason that during the update the battery doesnt die. So the main reason is linking to you not being able to charge your battery when your fone is dead, therefore causing further problems.

Hi all,
He asked what was the reason for it and i answered if anyone chooses to ignore SE's advice and risk killing their phone that's fine by me.
After all it's your phone if you like living dangerously do what ever you want it's no skin of my nose if you end up with a brick but you will only have your self to blame and just because you have got away with it so far is no guarantee of what will happen next time.
A little like running amber traffic lights you may get away with it for ages but one day it may just kill you.

Agree with dogmann. Why risk without any reason. It costs nothing to follow simple instruction and sleep well.

I was mainly referring to the removal of the SIM. Of course I wouldn't risk flashing a phone with a discharged battery...
