> Who has the fastest gprs? att, T-Mobile, or Cingular?
Bookmark topic
I have been using Cingulars GPRS since they rolled it out but I dont feel that the speed is that great. I have a t68i and an ipaq 3870. Can any of you tell me who has the best GPRS speeds? I know that it is supposed to be capable of 128kb but I know that I never achieve that speed with Cingular. Advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks,

I have T-Mobile and think their GPRS is great here in Hawaii. But I actually roamed on Cingular when I was in Las Vegas and their GPRS worked even better. I guess it depends on where you live and how good the GPRS coverage is.

GPRS is only capable of downloading at about 40k/sec since most phones are only capable of 3+1 timeslots, such as the t68. For speeds near 128k, you will need an EDGE handset when available, such as the nokia 6200.

Yes, but as the topic reveals we are talking about GPRS and which carrier provides the fastest service.

The T68i is actually capable of 4+1. However I have heard that the FCC limits all US GSM carriers to 2+1 which makes any speed comparison irrelevant. I haven't been able to confirm the information which I asked about here:

Anybody know anything about this? If it's true it isn't cool at all. What modem speeds are you guys getting over GPRS?

GPRS was hyped up pretty good. I was even listening to CNET the other day and one of the cell phone carriers or manufacturers (i wish i could remember who.) was bragging about 128kb downloads. If that was the truth I would be sooo happy. I just sold my ipaq since the gprs did not live up to my expectations. The grps is too slow for it. I am going to buy the new ipaq with integrated WiFi and just use it at starbucks with the T-mobile hotspot. I am posting this from the Hotspot now on my laptop. Maybe later they will get the speed up for gprs. Its still pretty good for text email.
