After 6 months of P990i, one may start to wonder

1. Would SE introduce any successor for its P-series?
2. Or SE breaking up the traditionally solo P-series into specific target segments and intro variants which caters for specific market such as their M-series and W-series and maybe more new series and KILL the P-series?
3. Any other replacements worthy of P990i ?? N95 (maybe not) HTC Kaiser?

All thoughts are welcome...

don't think there are many alternative phones with equal options.
maybe htc tytn comes quite close (no radio but pretty much the same).
i'm positive SE doesn't dis-continue it's p-series. Those have a quite solid users group.
but yes, the n95 could be a nice alternative. however it doesn't have a touchscreen which is a realy downside to me

I would like the specs of the N95 in a P series.
I want a quad band, Wi-Fi g, HSPDA, UMTS, 6MP, real Flash, not more than 125 g, 5x optical zoom, VGA 30 fps recording, screen as big as the phone, and somehow a keyboard and hardware controls on the side of the phone for may functions. desktop and all the UI customizable to users needs. that's ALL for now

HELL YEAH. but will eat up a lot of space and processing power.

Since the carriers will not change the bands they operate on, I was thinking, now that i got all riled up, if it is possible, as a feature, to let the user choose which network/band to be on at any given point in time?

For example, in US, on Cingular, they use 850 and 1900. So this phone should have listed ALL the GSM bands (850, 900, 1800, 1900), ALL the 3G bands (1900 US Cingular, 2100 US, 2100 International), HSPDA with check boxes next to them. In my case, I will choose 850, 1900, and 3G 1900 US and I be the happiest man in the world. Then when I travel, I switch the other bands, depending on the location. This way the phone will not have to search like crazy for 3G where is no 3G coverage, and this will save battery, and processing.

Right now the P990 only has the switch between GSM, 3G and GSM and 3G. And IMO, this will be next logical step. Don't you think?

@bytes

Good questions there is much speculation about could this of been the last P series and seeing as SE is so good at communication with it's users no one knows, is the answer to this question.

Now whilst SE has started to make progress with the P990 although it's not there quite yet, if they release a replacement before they achieve what they need to many users are going to pretty unhappy.

We all know that there are new devices expected in the UIQ smart phone range although no one knows when yet. Personally i hope they will be running UIQ3.1 and will be of the right quality on launch that users deserve to get for the prices they will have to pay.

Good point. History told us how they roll out the P910 just not long after the P900.
While I dont think they will roll out the P990i successor (if at all its coming) anytime soon but they will definately roll out the variants such as the M & W series. Then again, with enhancements added to their M & W series later, they would be encroaching into the P-series territory.
Long story short, I would not be surprised that SE would "kill" off the P series, branch out to their W & M series and maybe add a new series to cater for specific target market. Doing this makes more sales and thats what matters end of day. Just my two cents...

Cheers

I see the M and P series is starting to overlap each other... If that M600 with camera + wifi (forgot the code name) do come true, then what the P990 have over its sibling? I for one wouldn't want to look at P990 anymore, except for its definite cheaper price than the new phone.

Maybe... SE might fuse the M and P series together as Clie brand

But anyway, if SE still keeps the P series, it has to be better than the M series. Meaning at least 5 mega pixel camera, wifi, , etc. Regarding the 30 fps video recording, if SE doesn't include it out of the box, I have no worries. Because this is Symbian phone, a 3rd party developer might come in with a software solution.

Personally I wish they don't kill off the p series but give it a face lift and really high end, innovative and new features that it deserves. This is supposed to be the benchmark! Actually was until they messed up with the p990i and nokia slapped them with the n95 and e90. I still love the design (from the mighty Ericsson r380s/e) which is innovation at its best.

I like the p990 combinations of normal phone keyboard + qwerty + touchscreen, but it does need an evolution in terms of weight, slimness and size...a P990 with around 110g and slim has a M600 would be perfect
