> Memory Cards supplied with Phones
Bookmark topic
Hi all,
I have noticed in thread after thread people complaining and asking about the size of the free Memory cards with their phones. Having thought about this for a while other then using it to give either some free apps or trial apps it does seem some what pointless at least with the smaller cards as they really are of no use as their capacity is so small that most if not all people end up having to buy a decent sized card anyway.
Really the minimum should be a 512mb card or preferably 1gb with top end phones that are obviously going to need it either for pictures or music or both a 2gb obviously this is just MO any one else have any thoughts on this?

@dog - Yeah . . . I totally agree mate, specially with those W-series

fones and those with NEW 5 MP camfones soon to be OUT . . . however, we must always think of the marketing-strategy these fone companies have in their MINDs

. . . Though compared with Nokia . . . I guess

is doing BETTER as they are including some decent 512 mb Sandisk-cards in their W810i package and a 1 GB in the W850i ones . . . soon this trend will be put into a practice as I sees it (trend) . . . by the way . . . have you seen a private-jet or even a plain CAR baing sold in a dealer-store having it's TANK FILLED to the FULL hitting the TOPMOST gauge

I guess NOT

Mostly just - HALF or 3/4s FULL !

In K810's specs i read: "compatible with m2 cards up to 1gb".Is that for real or just the fact that Sony hasn't started selling 2gb m2s,only Sandisk?

currently no. only sandisk. however my 2gb m2 works well. i think in the future SE should insert 2gb memory card in-the-box especially for the walkman products. btw the MSPD from W810 , W800 box seems to be having a "sandisk" branded msd adapter...

from a manufacturers point of view. leaving out the cards means a lot less cost and also means then can release special editions of handsets like the N73 ME...
And from an end users point of view.. not everyone is always going to be happy with the size of card supplied..therefore non is provided to allow users to pick and choose as they wish. also the cost to you as an end user would be increased, other than SE no one makes their own cards, and even SE don't use Sony cards then use sandisk... does this not indicate the cost issue to you?
i'll eat my hat if anything every change but i can't see manufacturers inc 1gb cards in every phone..
also by not including allows for regional variation..

The included cards are getting bigger as the size of available cards grows too, but they're still way too small to be of use for anyone but the casual user. I find they're basically throw-aways. Worthless as a resale item, and useless as a storage card for me. Bin the original and buy the biggest replacement available. Just know that in a few months you'll have paid double the price for a card that, while huge when you bought it, is now about half the size of what's available. Seems to be our lot in life!
