> P990i FC- Sending SMS
Bookmark topic
Ok i don't know if anyone's noticed this little thing!
I've upgraded my Voda'boda'crap'fone P990i to the latest R9E.. firmware.
When it comes to sending messages i get this issue:
When I composed an SMS before i was able to write upto 160 characters without any problems.
But now, whilst having the 'Flip Closed' I can only write up to say 150, figured out it was due to the text size being set to LARGE (opening create new messaging/select the wrinting area/more/Editing/Format test/) I reset and saved it back to NORMAL and then i manage to get back 160, but the problem is that I have to reset it each and every Bloody time I write a new SMS. I know it isn't much, but those extra characters are crucial to me, esp if you're in the midst of an argument with your mrs. And I prefer to write with the flip closed, much much much faster.
(in flip open mode, its automatically set to Normal Text size)
Has anyone noticed this..? or is it just me?
Can anyone please help me here...?
if not, then im gonna hav to place my phone in the middle of the high street and wait for a bus to run over it or maybe i'll electricuit it and use it as a paper weight. hmmmm... thinking of other ways to kill the phone.

The same thing happens to me, but I don't care much about the problem as I have 2k free sms included each month. But surely a strange problem, that did not occur with my previous firmware (did not yet update to the newest).

i get approx 500 from O2, but the fact is that when you go over the character limit then the message is split to two messages.. and that could mean that they arrive to the receiver seperately and there isn't any garuantee that they will arrive in order.. or maybe worse it can be rejected buy the handset(older handsets). My P990 supports extended messaging..

The problem doesn't just waste an extra sms, but it will also affect how the sms looks on the receiving end. I am not sure about other brands, but on SE phones, the fonts are big ... looks very awful.
Does a master reset help to solve the problem permanently?

hmmm master reset helps... but found another way;
Open flip and goto messaging,
create new sms,
tap on top to get drop down menu
goto SETTINGS
click on ZOOM and Select MEDIUM
Now, close the flip and go to messaging
Create new sms and you should have 160 characters...

If I am not mistaken, "Zooming" only affects the looks on the phone. The problem I am facing is caused by the extra characters used for formating the font size.
So, I can have a "Medium" zoom level but "Large" fonts.

There does seem to be a few issues with various 'setting' that can be changed on the P990. I've found the best way to get rid of any of these little features, is to backup everything on your phone, do a master rest, then restore everything apart from the 'settings' option.
It gets rid of all those little F*** up's you occasionally find, it does also get rid of all your settings, but it only take 5mins to put back all your alarms, ring tones etc etc
