Take BSNL 199 plan. It's better. Download speeds are around 10 to 15 kBps.

i asked the airtel customer care & they said that the browsing speeds are around 115 kbps while that of downloading is 5-6 kbps. is it true?

115 kbps is the theoretical connection speed of a plain jane gprs connection. Practically not possible. On a class 10 device you should be happy if you get 10+ kbps.

Also not that the download speed is not same as the port speed which may show as "connected at 115.2 or 921 kbps", depending on what you select in modem properties. Thats a big joke!

all mobile operators will give you more or less same speed unless you have EDGE enabled phone and also nearest tower equipped with EDGE. if you get 5-7 kbps with gprs then you may get upto 30 kbps with EDGE. so first ask your operator whether they have EDGE in your locality. then also keep in mind how much money per month can you afford, and if you are planning to get new phone then you must take the EDGE enabled.

And switching over to BSNl wont help much. Its not the operator that matters...its the technology being used. A bullock cart would run at 5 kmph whether its here in India or in a german Autobahn
