Tilt sensor? Will future smartphones follow the iPOD stratagema?

It is already mentioned on 2007 SE product portfolio, SE will have a phone with accelerometer built in. Dunno it needs a new operating software revision.

My bet they will use the accelerometer or whatever on multimedia centric device... Probably the Walkman or the rumored Bravia series. But I'm worried about the cost and reliability issue. The cost mmm... Probably not so much because Nintendo Wii and PS3 controller has it and each cost no more than US$50 (the whole unit, the accelerometer might cost significantly less). But what about the reliability? I dropped my phones quite a lot, and breaking the acceloremeter might hurt more than my pride.

From mobile-review:

Symbian OS 9.5 is fully backwardly compatible with the previous versions bearing 9.x indexes. The change log includes:

High-performance smartphones to run on feature phone hardware, 20-30% lower RAM usage achievable, reduces device start-up time by several seconds, reduces application start-up time by up to 75%
Faster time-to-market, Symbian OS v9.5 introduces standardized support for digital TV and location-based services (LBS).
Enhanced support for built-in cameras. The 35 new camera features include support for tilt sensors, preset image enhancements, panorama stitching, and red-eye reduction.
Enhanced VoIP and streaming, automatic switching between 3G and Wi-FI

Why not?
WM5 devices have been able to update to WM6, don't they?

I think SE dont want that but instead want to make us buy a new phone. This is what they´ve been done all this years. Recently just look at the exemple of walkmanplayer v2

But SE didn't want flash themes in K800 and W810 either.
Maybe someone can find a way to do it, not via SE updater.
Who knows? If HW supports it, than why not?
