I went to Japan last year, and 3G phones worked for text and voice, so if your operator has a roaming agreement with any of the japanese networks it should work just fine. Have a nice trip

Hi!

what network do you use?

I use Vodafone UK and there is a good roaming agreement with SoftBank in Japan.

I'm currently out here on business (staying in Shinjuku and working in Sunshine City).

My P990i on T-Mob (UK) is roaming on Vodafone JP with no problems, Blackberry Push is working fine as well.

My W950i on Vodafone (UK) is roaming no worries on Vodafone JP too. VF Passport has helped immensely with keeping in contact with family and colleagues back in London.

Strangely, my K800i on T-Mobile (UK) defaulted to roaming with SoftBank?!

Hi Marc_SE !

" I'm currently out here on business (staying in Shinjuku and working in Sunshine City). "

Totally jealous ! I only get to Japan once a year, but this year will be my tenth trip!

I am not sure where Sunshine City is ?

" My P990i on T-Mob (UK) is roaming on Vodafone JP with no problems, Blackberry Push is working fine as well. "

Aren't the costs extortionate?

" My W950i on Vodafone (UK) is roaming no worries on Vodafone JP too. VF Passport has helped immensely with keeping in contact with family and colleagues back in London. "

Yes, and if you have loads of free minutes to use, plus unused from the previous month, then Passport is good!

But I made the mistake of using data with Vodafone whilst I was in Japan, and it was a big BIG mistake.....

" Strangely, my K800i on T-Mobile (UK) defaulted to roaming with SoftBank?! "

Hmm,, should it have defaulted to AU ? or Docomo, can't remember...

I have sent you a pm !

I just check with my operator. Yes the M600 can be used. I just need to change my sim card to a 3G version and activate it.
