> New P990i owner - problems have started!

Ok - So I went to Hong Kong on business...As a great gift for doing great business, I received a sony p990i. I threw my old phone away and started playing with the new toy...How can I change the alphabet from Chinese to US/English? It is not stated anywhere in the manual - and I ve driving myself NUTS! Also, I downloaded all the settings from Sony in order to connect to the web via Cingular. Right....I cant connect via GPRS or WIFI. It finds the wifi, it connects, I click the web - then all I get is: Could not locate remote server...Where am I going wrong? Please Help!

cant help you with your internet settings, but, for your language problem. go into a new message. instead of typing with keypad or qwerty, click on the little keyboard (flip open mode) , so you get the virtual qwerty keyboard. you should be able to type in english there or change it there. then click done and it should still be in english so you can keep typing.

Ok. So I went to send new message...Opened the flip pad. Now I'm looking at the keyboard (qwerty) - so I'm bypassing that also - Where the hell is the virtual keyboard? Or how do you access it? Sorry to ask this, but I cant bring it up.

I'm not friggin' blind but I'm starting to think that I might be ------ but I dont see a small keyboard...I went to message - send new sms message - flip the top open - I see the obviuos press keyboard, bypass that - but the only icons on the bottom are a small tab with numbers and the usual happy face inserts etc.

hi sattv2000 , I to have the same problem my piece is also bought from hongkong u can't change it to english , ur piece is Generic Hongkong check ur CDA it should be CDA162007/5 . I have changed my CDA to Generic world 1 through Kunlankendi . And there is no chinese langauage and the font looks better. And the phone is a lot more stable now. think this might help u.

my p990i was from hk. and i was able to change to english

better do a firmware update/reset and you will have to set language again
