these informations are from a developer from another forum who tried the new firmware R5A and those observations are his own so i hope they will help you.
by the way he started to try the R6D firmware already.
These are my observations from using the organizer R5x firmware the last two months:
1. The control panel now has a "Transition" setting, you can switch on/off menu animations.
2. Free memory is now ~16MB from fresh startup.
3. There is a progress bar during startup, seems faster but my stopwatch says otherwise.
4. RSS Feed application is stable and more responsive.
5. Built-in applications seem to take less memory and loads faster.
6. Menus are now faster.
7. When connecting to PC via USB, will be prompted to choose between Phone model and File Transfer mode. Previously, you had to go to Control Panel to do this and was quite annoying.
8. Should fix the "FC menu option goes missing" bug some people reported when beta testing SMan.
R5x firmware should be available soon as I have already started using organizer R6D012 beta firmware since yesterday. You should get R5A016 (or higher) as that was the last beta firmware I used before switching to R6D.
All I can say is upgrade when it comes out but make sure you download the latest PC Suite, and backup your phone using the latest PC suite before upgrading the firmware.
NOTE:R6D is pretty aggressive with memory.

Interesting. Looks like the p990i is becoming what it was meant to be. Pity bout the period it took to get there.

hmmnn.. and that will spell sleepless nights til the release date huh? i admit im quite frustrated with this phone. but i still believe there are still some workarounds to get to the issues we are having and regain the reputation of the phone that it should have..

He didn't say anything about the stability issues, which is the most important thing, so this post has nothing of interest at all.

that is not true,do not look at this issue only,he told us about things added to the new firmware so you can just see the topic without replying as we saw that it is useful to here any little something about the new firmware that we want to download so i think this topic is useful.
